Textures and Mapping - 10/10/18

In today's lesson, we looked at adding textures to objects and also UV mapping to add a range of textures to the same object. We did this using Maya, and the look was achieved by finding a desired texture on images, such as the grass texture as seen above. After this, we added the saved texture to the cube, by making it a lambert object and then adding the grass texture as a colour. For the UV mapping, to achieve the desired look, we opened UV editor and then saved the cubes plan. We then opened this up in Photoshop, in order to add in what textures we wanted to add to the cube. This time I choose a crate texture to make it realistic wooden crate. Following this, we saved the plan in Photoshop as a PNG image, and then proceeded to add the texture the same way as the grass texture, back in Maya.

By doing this, it will enable me to add textures to the objects in our own 3D environment and future games. In addition, It means that we will be also able to not only add a single texture, but multiple textures to the same object, using UV mapping.
